The information concerned NATO defense issues.
Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AdG) party has asked the federal government to provide detailed information on possible vulnerabilities in NATO’s defense system, the party’s defense spokesman Rüdiger Lucassen said.
This is reported by Politico.
In a February 19 letter seen by the publication, Lucassen asked to inform the Bundestag defense committee about the results of the NATO Hedgehog 2025 exercise held in Estonia.
In the appeal, he specified, “What capability gaps were found – especially in the areas of counter-drone, electronic warfare, command capabilities and mobile force protection?”
The exercise included the participation of Ukrainian drone specialists, who used tactics practiced on the battlefield to conditionally “neutralize” Alliance units.
Reaction from authorities and experts
A deputy on the Christian Democratic Union’s defense committee, Florian Dorn, expressed concern over the possible data leak, saying, “If such information falls into the wrong hands, it would jeopardize our security and defense capabilities.”
The AdG’s actions have previously raised concerns about the risk of disclosing information of interest to Russia.
The party’s response
The Alternative for Germany itself rejected suggestions of ulterior motives, emphasizing that requests for information are a standard tool of parliamentary control.
