The awards season is going ahead with full steam, with many already reaping the benefits of their incredible performances. However, there are some films which failed to hit the mark by a mile this past year, and to honour them, the Razzie Awards are coming on March 14. The nominations are led by several notable names, including Tron Ares, Snow White, The Alto Knights and The Electric State. The Electric State’s performance will cut the deepest for Netflix, as it turned out to be their most expensive film, with hardly anything to show for it.
The Electric State, directed by The Russo Brothers, had an incredibly impressive cast. It included Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, Holly Hunter, Giancarlo Esposito and Jason Alexander. However, the film opened to some very poor reviews. Its Rotten Tomatoes score was 14%, and its IMDb rating was 5.9/10. Critics called it “dull” and “lifeless”, and no one could believe that the minds behind Avengers Endgame failed so spectacularly.
The Golden Raspberry Awards or Razzie Awards are the polar opposite to Oscars where they ‘award’ the worst films and performances of the year. Notable stars like Halle Berry, Ben Affleck, Adam Sandler, Bill Cosby, Sandra Bullock, and Marlon Brando have all been on the winners list.
Apart from Worst Picture, the film has also been nominated for Worst Screenplay and Worst Director. The films joining it for the award of the night are Hurry Up Tomorrow, Snow White, Star Trek Section 31, and War of the Worlds. Disney’s Snow White has also been nominated in categories such as Worst Screenplay, Worst Director, Worst Remake, Worst Supporting Actor, and Worst Screen Combo. This is definitely not what Disney had planned when they announced that Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler were going to lead the film.
Other notable nominations are Jared Leto (Tron Ares), The Weeknd (Hurry Up Tomorrow) and Dave Bautista (In The Lost Lands) fighting it out for Worst Actor Male. Natalie Portman (Fountain of Youth), Michelle Yeoh (Star Trek Section 31) and Rebel Wilson (Bride Hard) are up for Worst Actress. Robert De Niro’s double role in The Alto Knights is up for the Worst Screen Combo, while Sylvester Stallone (Alarum) and Nicholas Cage (Gunslingers) will duke it out for Worst Supporting Actor.
